We asked four AI assistants — ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overview — about eleven of our clients. Nine answers were wrong in a way that cost the business money. One recommended a competitor. Two invented services the client does not offer.
None of the owners knew this was happening. That is the point.
What the assistants are actually reading
AI search does not crawl the way Google does. It reads a small handful of pages — usually the homepage, a services page, and whatever the top three organic results are — and answers from those. If the homepage is a hero image and a "Welcome to our website," the assistant fills in the blanks with anything else it can find.
In seven of the nine wrong answers, the assistant had used a directory listing, a stale Facebook post, or a competitor's comparison page.
"A dental clinic we work with was described as 'closed on weekends.' They opened Saturdays two years ago. The clinic had lost track of every listing except their own site."
The six things owners can do this week
- Ask ChatGPT and Perplexity about your business by name. Read what they say. That is your baseline.
- Fix the three most-wrong facts on your homepage — hours, services, location.
- Add a plain-text "About" paragraph that states what you do, where, and for whom, in that order.
- Claim and correct your Google Business Profile.
- Remove or update any directory listings that pre-date your last rebrand.
- Ship an AI Discovery Page. (Details below.)
What is an AI Discovery Page?
It is a single page written for AI assistants, not for humans. Structured as a set of questions and short, direct answers, marked up with FAQ schema, and linked from the footer of every other page. We build one with every new Pikuto site.
The page answers the sixteen questions our owners are most often asked by prospects: what you do, who for, where, prices, timelines, payment terms, guarantees, and the specific things that make you different. If a fact changes, you email us, and we update it.
Why this works
Assistants prefer short, factual, unambiguous copy. They quote FAQ-schema-marked-up answers more often than paragraphs. A well-built AI Discovery Page becomes the source of truth an assistant reaches for when someone asks a question in your category.
What we saw after shipping
We ran the same eleven queries three weeks after the pages went live. All four assistants now cited the client's own copy. Eight of nine wrong answers were corrected. One assistant still hallucinated a service in one query — we filed a report and it was fixed in a week.
None of this is guaranteed. AI search is early, unstable, and the assistants change their behavior every few months. But the direction is clear: the businesses whose sites read cleanly to a machine will be recommended more often. The others will not.
What to do next
If you are a Pikuto client, your AI Discovery Page is either already live or in your queue this month — no action needed from you. If you are not, and you want us to build you one, email us. It is included in the $150/mo, along with everything else.
